The Tragedian I shot a live theater performance for PURE Theatre last night. This the third performance I have shot for PURE. It's hard to stay on assignment when I get caught up in the performance. And talking about having to keep a steady hand, I cant use flash when shooting performances for obvious reasons, and many of the performances don't have very bright stage lighting. So I am literally holding my breath as I shoot each image. I am beat after shooting like that for two hours. I could use a tripod, but the tight spaces I have to work in wont allow it.
This theatre company puts out some seriously good work. If you're in the Charleston area, you may want to catch a show. www.puretheatre.org
The founders, Sharon and Rodney are such cool people to work with. They are also phenomenal actors and their theater company has been getting rave reviews. I have never known theater actors personally and they are true artists as well as very cool folks. I will always get a giant hug when I show up for a show.
Info on the performance:
The Tragedian marks the debut of PURE Historical. Penned by PURE cofounder and playwright in residence Rodney Lee Rogers (Killing Chickens) and directed by Peter Karapetkov (The Pillowman and Thom Pain (based on nothing)), this one-man tour de force is a breathtaking and explosive portrait of Edwin Booth, one of the most brilliant theatrical artists in history, arguably the greatest American actor of the 19th century, and the older brother of Lincoln assassin (and actor) John Wilkes Booth.
